Author Guidelines

Jurnal Agrotek Tropika (JAT) is a journal of science in the field of agrotechnology which covers several fields of science such as Agronomy, Horticulture, Soil Science, and Plant Pests and Diseases.  The article can be written in English and in Indonesian and should be as concise as possible.

All submissions are reviewed by one of the editor and at least two reviewers.  The JAT uses anonymous reviewing, in which the identities of authors and reviewers are kept confidential (“double blind peer review”).

MANUSCRIPT FORMATTING GUIDE

To simply follow the JAT's guideline for manuscript preparation, authors are encouraged to use the downloadable article template documents. Just replace the title and other contents of the downloaded template document with your own title and other contents. When pasting, please use a paste special/unformatted sequence so that your copying does not introduce unintended changes in fonts, margins, or various auto-format settings of the software. Within the text of the template, you will find further author instructions. The following is a summary:

File types: The article should be submitted in MS Word format. Other word processing applications are not accepted.

Format: All submissions should be typed on A4 size pages. The manuscript is typed on A4 paper with Cambria font and one column for the entire article.

Summarizing a clear introduction of two or three sentences mentioning background of the research, aim of the study, the experiments described, the main results and the conclusions. Give one or two sentence(s) to discuss the finding(s) or prospective(s).  Use Cambria font type with a size of 9 pt. The length of the abstract should be between 150 ~ 250 words. . A Keywords are covering scientific and local name (if any), research theme, and special methods which used; and sorted from A to Z.

Introduction: The introduction should cover the background, importance, and objectives of the study. It should be sufficient, well-argued and backed with available references that are relevant to the study.

Materials and MethodsMaterials and methods section describes materials used in research and steps followed in the execution of the study. The method section need to be detailed enough to allow reviewers to answers following questions: (i) Are the methods described in sufficient detail so that the study can be replicated?, (ii) Is the research an experimental or exploration?, (iii) If your research uses the previous researched method. Brief justification for the method used is also stated so the readers can evaluate the appropriateness of the method, reliability, and validity of the results.

Results and Discussion: Results should be clear and concise. State the obtained results based on the used methods.  Do not present same data in both  table and graph format. Tables and Figures

Tables and figures can be sized as shown in Table 1 or Figure 1 and Figure 2 in this example or as wide as one column. Do not place text beside tables or figures or place both at the end of the manuscript.

Table numbers and titles should be placed above the table with one space and left-aligned. Table numbers must be sequential and close to the sentence that explains them, leaving one blank line between the table, the table title, and the text. The table width should fit one column and tables should be open (no vertical lines in the table).

Figure numbers and titles should be on the same line below with 1 space and right-left aligned. Graph Figure explains them. Do not reduce the size of the graph (images with a resolution of 600 dpi are more recommended).

The figure should be clearly created and accurately display the text within the image. Do not cut and paste the graph from other texts, and ensure that the graph remains clear and easy to read after printing. Avoid using borders on the graph. The graph can occupy one column, as shown in the following example.

Units

SI units should be used throughout, always be written in roman and separated from the numerical value by a space. The µ in µg or µm is always in roman. The symbol for litre is l and that for minute is min. The unit of ton should be written as Mg. As the ångstöm (1 Å = 10-10 m) is not an SI unit, it should be replaced by the nanometer (1 nm = 10-9 m) or by the picometer (1 pm = 10-12 m): 1 Å = 0.1 nm = 100 pm. Multiple units should be written with negative superscripts (for example, 25 mg l-1s-1).

ConclusionsConclusions should answer the objectives of the research. Conclusions should not repeat the abstracts or just list experimental results. The author should provide a clear scientific justification for the study and indicate possible applications and extensions. Authors also encouraged to suggest future works and/or policy implications.

AcknowledgmentRecognize those who helped in the research, especially funding supporters of your research. Include individuals who have assisted you in your study: Advisors, Financial supporters, or may other supporters i.e. Proofreaders, Typists, and Suppliers who may have given materials.

ReferencesAll published works referred to in the text should be presents in a list of references and arranged alphabetically by the author without serial numbering. The author-year system is used in the text. Use the list of periodicals indexed in abstracts for the abbreviation of journal names: If there is any doubt, give the full name of the periodical. They should be referred to in the text by the name(s) of the first author and the year of publication in parentheses, using the following format: (Smith & Godoy, 2002) or Smith & Godoy (2002). Use the first author's name and "et al." when there are more than two authors. The order for references within parentheses in the text should be typed start from the oldest year (Cobo et al. 2002; Kwabiah et al. 2003; Lupwayi et al. 2005). If the references have the same year, place them alphabetically. For works by the same author(s) in the year, append a lowercase a, b, c, etc. to the year of publication.

The reference list should be single-spaced with a spacing of 1.15. Only the references cited in the proposal should be included in the reference list. Preference should be given to primary sources (journals or scientific periodicals) and recent literature (from the last five years and at least 50%). Citation and reference writing should use the name and year system (not numerical order).
