Abstract

Fruit flies (Bactrocera spp.) caused a decline in Siam Citrus production in Banyuwangi from 2016 to 2019. Fruit flies cause economic damage. Fruit flies can cause a reduction in production of up to 60%. This research was conducted to obtain information about the fruit fly population in Siamese orange groves in Banyuwangi Regency. This information is useful for monitoring techniques and fruit fly control planning. This research was conducted in May 2023 – July 2023 in Tegalsari District, Banyuwangi and in the Agrotechnology laboratory at Jember University. This research uses traps to determine the fruit fly population every week and incubation is carried out to determine the species of fruit flies that attack citrus fruit. The research location consists of two villages in Tegalsari District, namely Tegalrejo Village and Tegalsari Village and in each village there are three research locations which are Siamese orange gardens owned by the people. Data on daily activity of fruit flies was collected every three hours and every 2 weeks 5 times. Abiotic (temperature and humidity) and biotic (number of fruit) data were collected every time a trap was carried out. The results of the regression analysis showed that temperature had no significant effect on the fruit fly population, while the number of fruit had a significant effect on the fruit fly population. The T test showed that there was no significant difference between the fruit fly populations in Tegalsari Village and Tegalrejo Village. Kruskal-wallis analysis showed that fruit fly activity was highest in the morning (9.00-12.00) followed by afternoon (12.00-15.00) and the lowest number of fruit flies was found in the morning (6.00-9.00). There were three species obtained, namely B. dorsalis, B. carambola and B. umbrosa. The results of incubation of infected fruit were found to be B. dorsalis and B. carambolae species and no parasitoids were found in the incubation carried out.
