Plagiarism and Originality Policy

1. Introduction

Jurnal Agrotek Tropika (JAT) is committed to maintaining the originality, authenticity, and integrity of all scientific articles submitted for publication.

Plagiarism, redundant publication, inappropriate duplication, and misrepresentation of research findings are considered serious violations of academic and publication ethics.

All authors are required to ensure that their manuscripts represent original scholarly work and appropriately acknowledge the contributions of other researchers.

2. Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism refers to the use or presentation of another person's words, ideas, data, images, research findings, or intellectual contributions without appropriate acknowledgment.

Plagiarism may include:

  • Direct Plagiarism: Reproducing text or other scholarly material without proper quotation, citation, or permission where required.

  • Paraphrasing Plagiarism: Rewriting or modifying another author's ideas without appropriate acknowledgment.

  • Mosaic Plagiarism: Combining copied or closely paraphrased material from multiple sources without adequate attribution.

  • Self-Plagiarism: Reusing substantial portions of previously published work without appropriate citation or disclosure.

  • Data or Image Plagiarism: Using research data, graphs, photographs, or illustrations produced by others without proper attribution or authorization.

  • Redundant Publication: Publishing substantially overlapping research findings in more than one publication without appropriate disclosure and justification.

3. Similarity Screening

All manuscripts submitted to Jurnal Agrotek Tropika are screened for textual similarity using Turnitin.

The maximum acceptable similarity index is 15%.

In accordance with the journal's screening policy, manuscripts exceeding this threshold are subject to rejection during the initial editorial assessment.

A similarity report is used as a screening instrument and does not independently establish whether plagiarism has occurred. Editors should assess the sources, nature, and context of matched material when evaluating potential ethical concerns.

A similarity score within the acceptable threshold does not automatically establish originality or guarantee acceptance for publication.

4. Author Responsibilities

Authors must ensure that:

  1. Their manuscripts contain original scientific contributions.

  2. All borrowed ideas, methods, data, and materials are appropriately cited.

  3. Quotations and reproduced materials comply with applicable copyright and attribution requirements.

  4. Previously published or closely related research is disclosed where relevant.

  5. The manuscript is not simultaneously submitted to another journal.

  6. Research data and findings are accurately represented.

Authors remain responsible for the originality and integrity of the manuscript, including content developed or revised with the assistance of generative artificial intelligence tools.

5. Editorial Procedures

When potential plagiarism or substantial textual overlap is identified, the Editorial Board may examine the similarity report and relevant source materials.

Depending on the nature and seriousness of the concern, editorial action may include requesting clarification, returning the manuscript for correction, rejecting the submission, or referring the matter for further investigation.

Suspected ethical violations should be assessed fairly, consistently, and in accordance with established publication ethics procedures.

6. Plagiarism Detected After Publication

If suspected plagiarism is reported after an article has been published, the Editorial Board will examine the allegation and may request explanations and supporting evidence from the authors.

Where a serious violation is substantiated, appropriate action may include publication of a correction, an expression of concern, or a retraction, depending on the circumstances and the reliability of the published findings.

7. Publication Ethics

Jurnal Agrotek Tropika follows the principles of responsible scholarly publishing and considers the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) when addressing suspected plagiarism or publication misconduct.
